Rivian recalling nearly all its vehicles over loose fastener

IRVINE (Calif.) — Rivian Automotive announced Friday that it is recalling nearly all of its vehicles to tighten a loose fastener which could affect drivers’ ability for steering.

The company, which was founded in 2009, said it is recalling about 13,000 vehicles because a fastener connecting the vehicles’ front upper-control arm and steering knuckle may not be torqued enough. Rivian stated that seven reports have been made about the issue, but no injuries were reported.

” If you feel any unusual noise, vibration, or harshness in the front suspension, or a change of steering performance or feeling, you should immediately call Rivian CEO RJ scaringe in a letter to owners.

The company, based in Irvine in California, stated that the repair would take only a few minutes and that it expects to complete repairs on all vehicles in about 30days with customer collaboration.

Rivian aims to capitalize on a growing demand among investors and consumers for electric vehicles. It is one of many companies trying to take market share away from Tesla.

It went public last year and its market value quickly surpassed that of Ford or General Motors to become America’s second-most valuable automaker after Tesla. However, this is not the case anymore. The stock of the company is down 67% this year.

Last month Rivian announced that it was partnering Mercedes-Benz in Europe to build a factory that will produce electric vans.
