Dallas Mavericks Talk: Record Prediction, Phoenix Suns Opener Preview & Luka Doncic’s MVP Chances thumbnail

After an entire offseason of speculation, the slightly-retooled Dallas Mavericks are finally going to show us what they’ve got as they open the 2022-23 NBA season at the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday night.

The last time these two teams met, the Mavs were victorious in a 123-90 Game 7 road win that catapulted them into the Western Conference Finals. Although the Suns may be treating this game as a regular game, it wouldn’t surprise us if they had a little more juice for this season’s opener.

One thing is certain – the Mavs are going to play with an edge in this season’s league opener. They feel like other league members think their conference finals run last summer was a fluke. Dallas still needs to prove themselves worthy of being a championship contender despite the extra motivation.

Will Luka Docic, who seems to be in the best shape of his life heading into a season and has been the betting favorite to win the MVP award for three years straight? Doncic will have a huge year , regardless of whether he wins the award.

Christian Wood displayed how valuable he can be for the Mavs’ offense during the preseason, as he averaged 17 points and 8.3 rebounds while shooting 53 percent from the field and 41 percent from deep in just 22 minutes off the bench. But, is Wood capable of being a good defender? Coach Jason Kidd may consider Wood as the starting center if he is able to do so.
