But Seriously… Stetson Bennett for Heisman
There is no greater honor in college football than the Heisman Trophy. From an individual standpoint, at least. It is given to the college football’s most outstanding player every year, and Georgia’s Stetson Bennett is worthy of some attention.
According to the latest Heisman odds, Bennett is sixth on the list with 1600 odds to take home the trophy. He is followed by Hendon Hooker from Tennessee, Blake Corum, the Michigan running back, and Caleb Williams, the quarterback at USC. Although it may not surprise that these names are high on the list, what might surprise you is how close Bennetts’s stats to those ahead of him.
Bennett currently ranks 2nd among all SEC quarterbacks in passing yards, behind Will Rodgers of Mississippi State. He is currently on pace to finish the regular season with 3,474 passing yards. That would be the most yards thrown for by a Georgia quarterback in a single season since Matthew Stafford in 2008. Former No. Bennett was a former No. 1 overall draft pick.
Bennett’s stats are not the only thing that stand out. His performances in Georgia’s two biggest games this season are also eye-catching. To start the season, Bennett faced Oregon, a team currently ranked No. 6 according to the AP poll, Bennett threw for 368 yards, scored three total touchdowns and completed 80 percent of his passes.
Most recently against Tennesse, Bennett put on another show, as he threw for 257 yards, scored three total touchdowns and completed 68 percent of his throws. Bennett has two games that could be his Heisman moment. Every Heisman Trophy winner had one.
Playing well when the lights shine brightest is what Bennett does. He is a gamer. He’s a gamer.

People remember and know Stetson Bennett as the former walk-on quarterback who climbed his way up to become Georgia’s starter and found his way to a national title. It is time to give Bennett the national attention he deserves and to recognize him as the elite athlete that he has been. With three regular-season games remaining and an SEC Championship matchup, Bennett may be able to make a push for the award and earn himself an invitation to the Heisman Trophy ceremony in December.
