BREAKING: Seminoles flip four-star safety from Penn State, hold off Miami
Florida State has been on the wrong end of multiple Early Signing Day surprises in the past two years.
Well, like their play on the field, maybe the Seminoles’ luck on the recruiting trail is beginning to shift in the right direction.
Conrad Hussey, a four-star safety, announced on Thursday that he was signing with Florida State after he had signed with Penn State. Hussey was favored by the Seminoles over Miami and the Nittany Lions, who hosted him the last weekend before the NCAA Dead Period.
Hussey visited Florida State only once before his decision, but the coaching staff kept in touch with him. The staff’s efforts, including Mike Norvell, head coach, and Marcus Woodson (defensive backs coach), proved fruitful. Hussey is a highly talented prospect in a position of need.
It is possible that both the Seminoles’ first safeties, Jammie Robinson and Akeem dent, will move on after the season. Robinson has repeatedly stated that he’s played his last game at Doak Campbell Stadium, while Dent is still considering his options. This means that Hussey could be involved in defense early in his career.
The Seminoles were a favorite of Hussey’s growing up in Florida. He was overwhelmed during his Official Visit in Tallahassee, which is why he chose Florida State.

“FSU was great, I’m not going to lie. I like everything about it, what they had to show me,” Hussey said. “I also appreciate the love they showed me. Everything about FSU was exactly the same as what they had told me before about family and culture, so I truly respected that. The St. Thomas Aquinas graduate will enroll at Florida State this summer. He recorded 29 tackles, 5 pass deflections, and 3 interceptions during his senior season, according to MaxPreps.
The 6-foot, 190-pound defensive back is regarded as the No. 164 overall prospect, the No. 11 S, and the No. 38 recruit in the state of Florida in the 2023 class according to 247Sports.
As of now, Florida State holds 17 commitments in its 2023 class, which ranks No. 17 overall in the country according to 247Sports.
