Today’s second round of golf’s second major, PGA Championship, begins with Rory McIlroy leading the charge.
Rory McIlroy came out like a house on fire in the first round of the 2022 PGA Championship from Tulsa, Oklahoma. He began on the back nine, birdied four holes in succession, which is usually a sign McIlroy is on his way to a win or at least a final-day pairing in golf’s second major. Although Tiger Woods was not able to finish the first round, it was great to see Woods out on the course this week.

McIlroy took off early in the first round of the PGA Championship to take the lead entering today’s second round:
Overall, McIlroy finished the day with seven birdies and two bogeys to leave with a one-stroke lead over Will Zalatoris (-4) and Tom Hoge (-4).
McIlroy continues to play well at the Masters. He finished the final round with an 64 to finish in second place behind Scottie Scheffler. Scheffler ( 1) had five bogeys and an eagle in the first round. He also had two birdies. This is something he hopes to rectify today.
For the tie in second, Zalatoris had six birdies with two bogeys and Hoge had five birdies with just one bogey.
Woods ( 4) ended his first round with seven bogeys and three birdies to sit 10 strokes back of the lead. He finished -13 and in 47th place at the Masters as the course slowly wore him down.
The cut for today will be determined heading into the weekend. The scores are just low enough that a golfer such as Scheffler or Woods can make a play to climb up the leaderboard.
